January 7: Even Jesus Prepared

Luke 2:41-51

The Boy Jesus at the Temple

41Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the Passover.

42And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.

43And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it

44But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.

45And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.

46And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the scholars, both hearing them, and asking them questions.

Note: this is the Scripture Pastor Andrew is emphasizing today "Even Jesus Prepared".  Even Jesus had to study.  The Bible says we must study, as it is written in 2 Timothy 2:15 "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth".

47And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

48And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.

49And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?

50And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.

51And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

52And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour/favor with God and man.

Pastor Andrew continues his teaching

This is the only scriptural record of Jesus’ childhood; yet, there is much we can learn from this brief account. At twelve years of age, His wisdom astounded the men who had spent a lifetime studying the Scriptures (v. 47). Remember that Jesus did not have full-time access to a copy of the Bible like we do today. He received revelation knowledge from His heavenly Father, but He had to visit the synagogue to read the scrolls of God’s Word.

We see that Jesus knew His call and purpose even in His early childhood, but He still had to study and prepare Himself for the work God had called Him to accomplish. He is doing the same thing with you, preparing you for what He has called you to do.

Note: what God has called you to do could be anything.  It would be a thing that is pleasing to Him; a thing pleasing to His purpose; a thing that will glorify Him; an impossibility becoming a possibility, etc.

Pastor Andrew's Teaching Continues

If you don’t know what you are called to do, ask Him today! Then ask Him to show you what you can do to prepare your mind and heart for all He wants to accomplish through you.

Note: you can pray something like this:

Prayer

Father God, in the Mighty Name of Jesus, I submit to You to reveal to me what You have called me to do in this life.  I surrender to Jesus/Yeshua, to prepare my mind and heart for all You want to accomplish through me.  And I yield to Your Spirit to teach, equip, enable, and empower me to do it and glorify You.  In Jesus'/Yeshua's Name.  Amen!!!  pfb (c) 1/6/2023
