January 13: Knowing Who You Are
Matthew 4:1-11; Mark 1:12-13; Luke 4:1-13
Matthew 4:3
And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. {This is the Scripture Jesus is teaching on}
Matthew 4:1-11 King James Version
The Temptation of Jesus
1Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. 3And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. {Note: when you live on bread alone, you only feed your body. But when you live on "every word that proceedeth out of th mouth of God", you are feeding your soul. Just imagine how many souls out there that are starving}.
5Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 11Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
Note: We just went through these same exact Scriptures. It is repeating itself for a reason. Repetition is the best way to learn and retain. You can learn how Jesus responded to temptation in these verses and do the same at any time you are tempted. He responded by speaking the Word of God against the temptation.
Note: When you read the Word, study it, memorize it, and meditate on it, they are planted in you as seeds}, and the time comes when you find yourself where the enemy is tempting you and/or waging war on you, then the Holy Spirit uses those Words you have read, studied, memorized, meditated upon, spoken, and lifts it up into your mind. At that time God the Spirit is talking to you. I know you have experienced that before. That means you have heard God's voice.
Note: When that happens, Holy Spirit is actually guiding you to use that Word as a weapon against that situation and the spirit that might be behind. If you cannot speak it out loud because maybe of where you are, you can speak it in your mind/thought. And if worse comes to worse, you can just say: "God help me" -which applies to the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. Thank You Jesus, because You made this happen by Your obedience to Father and by Your love for Your brothers and sisters/mankind.

Two of Satan’s three temptations began with the words, “If you be the Son of God.” Jesus was God, but He did have a human body that had to grow in the knowledge and wisdom of God.
(John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God";
1 Tim. 3:16 "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory";
Luke 2:52 "And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.".)

It took faith for the physical mind of Jesus to believe the witness of the Spirit within Him that He was the Messiah.
In Matthew 4:3 "And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread"., Satan attacked the most basic of Jesus’ beliefs: who He was. Satan also knew He was hungry {Note: the devil knows your weakness}. Turning stones into bread must have been a temptation for Jesus, or Satan would not have used it.
Satan is very subtle in his temptations. It looked like he was trying to get Jesus to perform a miracle, but he was actually trying to make Jesus waiver in His faith concerning who He was. He tried to get Jesus to draw on the supernatural power of God to confirm His own identity, but it didn’t work! Jesus knew who He was and never wavered in believing it. {Note: this is the kind of mindset believers are to have. Prayer: Father God, give me the mindset that Jesus had so that I too can overcome and glorify you, in Jesus' Name. Amen!!!}
Unlike Jesus, we sometimes fall for this trick of the devil. We may say we are arguing what we believe, but we are hoping to convince ourselves. Someone who really knows who they are in Christ does not have to prove anything to anyone because they have full assurance from God’s Word that He loves them and values them. {Note: ooooh, praise the Lord!, hallelujah!)
Isaiah 30:15 says, “For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength.” Today meditate on God’s Word and let the Holy Spirit build your confidence in who you are in Christ Jesus.
Note: Isaiah 30:15 is aweseome for the Sabbath, or whenever you take time out to fellowship with God. He is expecting you to return to Him and fellowship with Him, which gives you rest: from stress, worries, pressure, tension, whatever, etc. Healing takes place, deliverance takes place, etc. The devil hates the Sabbath because he knows you are being rejuvenated. Oh well, that's his problem not ours.
Note: Again, "the battle is not ours but the Lords -2 Chronicles 20:15". Lift it all up to the Lord and rest in Him - Mathhew 11:29-30 says "28Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light".
Mark 1:12-13
12And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness. 13And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.
Luke 4:1-13
The Temptation of Jesus This is the same experience as Matthew
(Matthew 4:1-11; Mark 1:12-13)
1And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. 3And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. 4And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
5And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. 7If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. 8And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
9And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:
10For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:
11And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
12And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
13And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season. {Note: for a season means he is gone for the moment, but he comes back, or tries to come back again. That is how stubborn he is},
