January 24: The Joy of Being Born Again

John 3:1-21

John 3:1-21

Jesus and Nicodemus

1There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.à

4Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? 5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

Note

This is an indication that man is also trinity: your flesh is your body, and your spirit is the part that is God, and then there is the soul.

9Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? 10Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? 11Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. 12If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? 13And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. 14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

For God So Loved

(Genesis 22:1-10Romans 5:6-11)

16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God19And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil20For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Note: very powerful teaching

John 3:10

Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?

Nicodemus was a highly educated man in religious matters, yet he didn’t have the slightest idea what Jesus was talking about when Jesus told him, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (v. 3).

Nicodemus’ relationship with God was purely academic. He knew a lot about God, but he didn’t personally know God. Being the Son of God, Jesus had a uniquely intimate relationship with the Father that intrigued Nicodemus. He sought to understand it, and Jesus told him that this same kind of relationship was available to him through being “born again.”

Note

Yes, Christianity is about having a relationship with God.  And every Christian is in a different level in their walk with God.  Some are infants (Ephesians 4:14) and some are Mature (Ephesians 4:14).  And the way to maturity is studying the Word, and being a doer of the Word (James 1:22).  This is very important because the Word is a Seed that gets planted within you, and it becomes alive (1 Peter 1:23).  And the Holy Spirit works with you with what has been planted in you.  This is why God's adversary does not want people to know the Word.  Because he thinks he owns you and he knows he will loose you.

Pastor Andrew continues his teaching

Of course, Nicodemus asked in verse four, “How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?” Jesus explained that being one with God spiritually happens only when a person’s spirit is reborn and regenerated by the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. He said, “Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” (vv. 5,6).

Note

This is an indication that man is also trinity: your flesh is your body, and your spirit is the part that is God, and then there is the soul.

The number-one thing that sets Christianity apart from religion is the born again experience. We don’t just have a sure way to get to heaven; we have been born from above. We have God’s Holy Spirit living in our spirits, and we are in constant communion with the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Our eternal life is not just after our physical bodies die; it is the quality of life and spiritual blessing that we live in from the moment we are born again.

Christianity is a relationship, not a religion. As a believer, you have the exciting privilege of having continual fellowship with God your Father and Jesus your Lord and Savior through the Holy Spirit who lives inside you. Today, enjoy being born again.

Note

"Christianity is a relationship, not a religion", Pastor said.  I believe this is the reason why we get to that place where we feel very comfortable to call God Father (Note: Matthew 6:8 "So then, this is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven")
