January 10: The Weapon of the Word

 Matthew 4:1-11; Mark 1:12-13; Luke 4:1-13

Matthew 4:1-11

The Temptation of Jesus

(Mark 1:12-13Luke 4:1-13)

1Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit {Notes: So here, it tells us that the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted.  This tells us the statement of "what the enemy meant for evil, God turned it into our good} into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred {hungry}. 3And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.  {Note: what do you think the devil was doing here, he was looking for proof}.   4But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God {Note: this is the Word Pastor Andrew is teaching on}.  {Note: here, Jesus is referring for believers to live on the Word {Jesus}.  This is telling us the Word of the God in the Bible is spoken by God - Matthew 1:4.  This is a command}.

5Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city {Jerusalem}, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

6And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down {Note: satan is still testing the Power of God}: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.  {Note: this is what you can do too when you need help for anything, especially danger, harm, spiritual attack, etc., you can always call upon God to "give His angels charge concerning you", or even for someone else, or a place, a thing, etc.}

7Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.  {Note: here Jesus is talking the talk and walking the walk.  This is expected of us believers too.  If we struggle with this, we can always ask God to help us talk the talk and walk the walk.  And give it to Jesus and surrender to Him}.

8Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world {Note: here satan is showing Jesus all the satanic kingdoms of the world.  satan is a king of the satanic kingdom- Matthew 12:26 "And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand"?}, and the glory of them {Note: and the powers of the satanic kingdom.  So you see, it is no lie, the world is under satan's authority, but God owns it.};

Note: Hebrews 2:1 - Contemporary English Version

"verything belongs to God, and all things were created by his power. So God did the right thing when he made Jesus perfect by suffering, as Jesus led many of God's children to be saved and to share in his glory".

9And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee {Note: you can only give something if it belongs to you, his kingdom.  It does not belong to him, it belongs to God - Hebrews 2:10}, if thou wilt fall down and worship me {Note: he wanted Jesus to bow down to him and worship him.  This is the same way man is tempted to serve the devil}.

10Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve {Note: this is the same way you respond whenever you are experiencing temptation.  Just remember Father owns it all {Hebrews 2:10}. Trust in Him.  He said "He will never leave you nor forsake you".  Note: Deuteronomy 31:8 "And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed"}.

11Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.  {Note: when you don't give in to satan's temptation, and you use the Word of God against him, he leaves.  He understands the Power in the Word of God}.

Mark 1:12-13    This is the same Scripture according to how Matthew saw it.  They were all with Jesus!

The Temptation of Jesus

(Matthew 4:1-11Luke 4:1-13)

12And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness [Note: so here, we are being taught that the Holy Spirit can take us to place where God is testing us to see if we have grown/matured. 13And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him {Note: like Jesus, when we overcome temptations, we get rewarded: it could be angels ministerig to us; majority of the time, another believer {stranger} comes and ministers to me.  They could be angels {Hebrews 13:2}. You never know. Sometimes the reward could be a friendly gesture, a smile, good news, etc.}

Luke 4:1-13    This is the same Scripture according to how Matthew saw it.  They were all with Jesus!

The Temptation of Jesus

(Matthew 4:1-11Mark 1:12-13)

1And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. 3And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. 4And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

5And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it. 7If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. 8And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

9And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:

10For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:

11And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

12And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

13And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season {Note: for a season means just for that issue you are dealing with at that time.  "satan is always lurking around to see whom he may devour" - 1 Peter 5:8.  Watch out: "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour"}

Pastor Andrew Teaches on "The Weapon of The Word" {Scriptures}

When the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness, it was so He could be tempted by the devil. How did Jesus respond? He answered every temptation with, “It is written.” The Word of God is the sword of the Spirit (Eph. 6:17), and it is the only offensive spiritual weapon we have. Jesus showed us how to use it. {Note: copy and print these Scriptures as a guide on how to respond to satan's temptations"}

Since Jesus is the Word of God (John 1:1), anything He would have spoken would have been the Word. When He was tempted, He could have said, “Scat!” and the devil would have had to go. Nevertheless, He quoted the written Word of God each time, the same Word you and I have today.

This gives us great assurance that the written Word of God is sufficient for us. Jesus, in the face of the greatest temptations Satan could offer, did not need to say anything that was not already recorded in Scripture. The Word sustained Him and enabled Him to overcome all temptation to sin. It is likely that when He returns to this earth, He will just speak the written Word to destroy His enemies. No wonder Satan tries to keep us from studying and knowing God’s Word!

God has given you the mighty weapon of His Word {Note: Great gift}. When you speak the Word in faith, hell shakes. Satan and his minions have already experienced what the Word can do. They know its power. Now you need to know it and be persuaded of it too.

Note: Praise the Lord, what an awesome teaching!  Thank You Jesus!!!
