February 14: God’s Love Doesn’t Have a Short Fuse
1 Corinthians 13:1-13
1 Corinthians 13:1-13
The Greatest Gift
1Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body [a]to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.
4Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not [b]puffed up; 5does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, [c]thinks no evil; 6does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. (Note: I want to believe that these are attributes/characters of Jesus Christ).
8Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part. (Note: this last statement is to show that man does not know everything). 10But when that which is [d]perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. (Note: "that which is perfect" is referring to Jesus).
11When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. . 12For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
Note
Verse 11 is a necessity for one's growth and maturity as a believer. It requires honesty and knowing yourself, who you are, and knowing your behavior. Only then are we able to change and grow. This is doable through asking Holy Spirit for help. Remember, He is our helper (John 14:16).
13And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. (Note: true Love conquest all).
1 Corinthians 13:5
Is not easily provoked.
Pastor Andrew Wommack Teaches on "Is Not Easily Provoked"
During a weeklong meeting in a church of about 600 people, I taught on God’s grace and longsuffering toward us, and many were set free. However, the pastor would lead praise and worship each night and then would conspicuously (Note: conspicuously=clearly) walk down the aisle and right out of the church. It was obvious he didn’t like what he was hearing at all.
I tried to balance everything so that no one would think I was encouraging sinful living, but the pastor didn’t stay for the messages. The last night of the meeting, I was desperate to penetrate his rejection of the teaching. He led a song that talked about how we should be loving and longsuffering toward others, forgiving them even before they ask for forgiveness. This was a song he wrote.
Before he left the platform, I asked him if he really believed what he sang. I asked if that principle applied even to those who treated us badly over and over. He was adamant that we should always forgive in all circumstances. Then I said, “Isn’t it strange that some people believe God expects them to behave with more love toward others than they believe He shows them?” He got the point.
Another test of whether or not we are walking in God’s kind of love is how patient we are. God’s love is always patient. As true as this is with our dealings with others, it’s even more true of God’s dealings with us. God will not instruct us to do something that He is unwilling to do. God is not easily provoked. He’s not the one with a short fuse. Many people think God is short-tempered, but that isn’t the truth.
Note
This last paragraph is so true. Sometimes I am shot fused. IAM becoming better because I am learning to walk in the Spirit. There is righteous anger and an unrighteous anger. We can ask the Holy Spirit to help us be patient* with others that easily agitate us. Sometimes it could be God's will to teach us to be patient and loving even towards those we find annoying, and those that easily agitates us; and then there is the enemy's intention to anger us to sin. Righteously react to anger by not allowing the enemy to tempt you to hurt yourself, hurt someone else, or become destructive. Pick a fruit (fruit of the Spirit) that is right for the moment, and ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with that fruit.
Note
The Fruit Of The Spirit. Please write it down, keep it close by, and memorize it. The fruit of the Spirit is a gift to you from Father God. That's how much He loves you. He knew you were going to need it on this journey. Receive it, thank Him for it, and use it.
Galatians 5:22-23 KJV
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering (patience), gentleness, goodness, faith, 23Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23. NKJV
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering (PATIENCE), kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23[g]gentleness, (and) self-control. Against such there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23. New Living Translation. (I love this version. The words all mean the same. The difference is, e writer's choice.)
22But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
Bonus. KJV
24And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

Meditate on God’s longsuffering love for you, and let Him show you how patiently He loves you today.
