February 24: He Will Share His Reward
Matthew 5:10-12
Matthew 5:10-12
10Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11Blessed are ye, when men shall revile (Note: criticize) you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake . 12Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets (Note: including Jesus) which were before you.
Note:
Verse 11: as a believer, it will be that because God is alive in you. Period! And the enemy can sense that in you. Do you remember the Scripture in Galatians 2:20 "20I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me". So Christ is still being persecuted through us. So everything that was done to Paul, to the deciples, to believers up to today, it is not personally directed towards them, but towards God. The people doing it does not even realize they are serving the devil. These are the ones, if they don't repent and turn to their creator, or will not accept Jesus to take away their sin and and turn from it, according to the Bible, they will end up in the lake of fire (Revelation 20:7-10, 15, 20; John 8:21, 24; Matthew 25:41; 2 Thessalonians 2:8). And after all these things they'll do to believers, they'll end up in eternal life, while they spend their eternity in the lake of fire. Take courage, the battle is not yours, but the Lord's (2 Chronicles 2:20:15 "15And he said, “Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! This is what the LORD says: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army, for the battle does not belong to you, but to God"). Even though the names are different here, it still applies to those that are on the Creator's/God's side. God knew this day will come, and He made providing through Christ, our sacrificial Lamb.
Matthew 5:12
Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets (Note: including Jesus) which were before you.
Pastor Andrew Wommack teaches on "He Will Share His Reward"
Jesus said persecution should actually cause us to rejoice. There are many positive things about persecution, but one of the best reasons to rejoice is because of the reward awaiting us in heaven after we endure it, refusing to lose our faith in Him.
Jesus takes the persecution of His saints seriously, as can be seen during the Damascus road experience of the apostle Paul. The Lord asked Paul (then Saul), “Why are you persecuting me?” (Acts 9:4). He didn’t say, “Why are you persecuting my people?” but “Why are you persecuting Me?” (Note: Wow!)
It is not actually us that people are rejecting; they are rejecting the One we represent. We are the body of Jesus Christ on this earth. Whatever people say or do to us, they are saying it and doing it to Jesus (Note: praise the Lord, hallelujah!!!). Therefore, Jesus promised to share His reward with us. Jesus will share all His glory and honor with those who have suffered shame for His name’s sake. (Rom. 8:17.) What a great reward. (Note: thank You Jesus).
Focusing on the reward instead of the persecution can actually make you rejoice when people speak against you or mock you because of your faith. (Acts 5:41.) Paul actually longed to experience the fellowship Jesus provided to those who suffered for His sake. Paul knew he would not only know Jesus more intimately but also walk in His resurrection power. (Phil. 3:10.)
For all these reasons, if you encounter persecution for your faith in Jesus Christ today, lift up your head and rejoice! His reward is infinitely greater than any suffering you endure.
